Skycoin Announces Public Release of Skywire Mainnet

Skycoin has unveiled the developer version of their Skywire application. Developers will now be able to download, install, build, and run the Skywire mainnet utilizing a command line interface. Full developer documentation will be released over the next few weeks.

Shanghai, Shanghai - March 15, 2019 —

Work on Skycoin began in 2011 with the merging of three separate projects that aimed to improve upon the design and implementation of Bitcoin. The Skycoin developers identified several major philosophical design issues that they saw as obstacles to global use of cryptocurrency as a censorship-resistant payment system.

Skywire, the decentralized internet protocol and mesh network, was created as a solution to answer many of these problems.

Skywire Mainnet is here for Developers to Test

After about ten months of intensive testing on a network of nearly 10,000 nodes spanning the globe, Skycoin is happy to announce that the developer version of Skywire’s mainnet is now available to the public. Its official launch date was the 4th of March 2019.

This first iteration of Skywire’s mainnet features entirely rewritten software from the ground up and is primarily focused on a platform for developers to start building the next generation of distributed apps. All existing apps have been rewritten and optimized for the mainnet including a distributed and secure chat app, SSH, and a multi-hop tunneling proxy app. Many more will be coming soon.

This first version of Skywire’s mainnet represents a huge milestone for Skycoin and for the future of the internet. Skywire will serve as an unstoppable, highly resilient network, removing any possibility of censorship.

Skywire mainnet’s developer build is the first release of many. Over the course of the next few months Skycoin will be releasing new iterations and features for Skywire – one of these is an updater that allows Skycoin to push new features constantly – stay tuned for additional information, technical details, and further updates from the team.

Please note: Do not install this on your skyminers as they are running testnet and will stop receiving rewards. Skywire mainnet can be installed on any other device to run, test and develop.

Bug reporting should be done through the repo, with steps taken to reproduce any feedback. Details of the process will be available in the readme section of the branch.

Israel says bots promoting boycott of Eurovision

May 25, 2019

JERUSALEM — Israel on Thursday said it has uncovered a network of bots and fake Twitter accounts urging a boycott of the upcoming Israeli-hosted Eurovision song contest. Israel's Ministry of Strategic Affairs said the Palestinian-led movement that promotes boycotts against Israel is behind the effort. Twitter confirmed it suspended "a small network of accounts" in response to the Israeli complaint. The BDS movement calls for boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel in what it says is a nonviolent campaign against Israeli occupation. The movement has had some success in persuading artists to cancel appearances in Israel and has urged contestants...

Israeli Eurovision hero says there's no place for boycott

May 25, 2019

JERUSALEM — Israel's winner of last year's Eurovision song contest said Monday there was no place for boycott calls of this year's competition in Tel Aviv, saying that to snub such a popular world event celebrating diversity would be akin to "spreading darkness." Noting Israel's upcoming annual Holocaust Remembrance Day, pop icon Netta Barzilai reminded a group of foreign journalists that the Eurovision was established in the wake of World War II to heal a torn continent. "Being on the same stage, no matter what your religion or ethnicity or color, from all these countries, from all these cultures, this...

May 25, 2019

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday beheaded 37 Saudi citizens, most of them minority Shiites, in a mass execution across the country for alleged terrorism-related crimes. It also publicly pinned the executed body and severed head of a convicted Sunni extremist to a pole as a warning to others. The executions were likely to stoke further regional and sectarian tensions between rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran. Saudi dissident Ali Al-Ahmed, who runs the Gulf Institute in Washington, identified 34 of those executed as Shiites based on the names announced by the Interior Ministry. "This is the largest...

May 25, 2019

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Saudi Arabia detained 12 people, including two dual U.S.-Saudi citizens, in a new round of arrests in the kingdom targeting individuals supportive of women's rights and those with ties to jailed activists, people with knowledge of the apprehensions said Friday. It marks the first sweep of arrests to target individuals perceived as critics of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman since the killing of writer Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in October. The arrests come despite a global outcry over Khashoggi's grisly killing by Saudi agents in an operation directed by former top...
