Under the New York Child Victims Act, the victims of sexual abuse by priests, ministers, rabbis, teachers, leaders and other members of the clergy have a limited time to sue for their physical, psychological and emotional injuries.

Melville, United States - August 13, 2019 /MarketersMedia/ —
Under the New York Child Victims Act, those who were sexually abused as children have a limited one-year window to bring claims for sexual abuse by churches, synagogues, mosques, boy scouts or others engaged in the sexual abuse of children.
David Krangle, one of the founding partners in Alonso Krangle, LLP, explained "this is an important law that creates a narrow window of opportunity for victims of sexual abuse. Victims can finally seek justice and compensation for their injuries. However, the window is very limited - there is an opportunity of just one year to bring these cases."
Mr. Krangle's firm has long advocated for the rights of those sexually abused by priests, members of the church, rabbis, ministers and others.
Founding partner Andres Alonso explains, "it is critical that those suffering act quickly to seek justice. While such claims would normally be time barred under the law, this Act gives victims the chance to seek the closure they need."
The law goes into effect on August 14, 2019 and remains in effect for one year. Because of the time required to prepare claims and gather information, as well as an expected flurry of legal activity around particular defendants, their clergy sexual abuse attorneys encourage people to take action as quickly as possible.
"The tragedy suffered by so many is real," adds Mr. Alonso. "While it is difficult to come forward and speak about such matters, it is urgent that victims come forward now. Our attorneys are sensitive to the pain of victims who were sexually abused by the church; we are here to answer any questions they may have."
The firm is a nationally recognized law firm, handling sexual abuse by priests, ministers, teachers and leaders of the church as well as other organizations in addition to personal injury, dangerous drug and defective medical device cases.
The firm launch in January 2012. Each partner has practiced law for 25 years.
